Modi government anti-farmer: Cong

Published on:

The Congress on Sunday accused the Modi government of being anti-farmer and step motherly towards Chhattisgarh.

In a statement, PCC Communication Wing head Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said the Centre was not supplying adequately the much needed fertilizers, badly hampering the sowing work of farmers in the state.

As against 12 lakh tonnes of fertilizers required, only 45 percent was supplied by the Centre, he said.

"Farming and the farm sector are not in the priority list of the Centre. Instead of fulfilling the commitment of doubling farmers’ income, it has brought three black farm laws.

“These laws do not benefit the farmers but favour corporate houses."

By increasing the prices of fertilizers, pesticides and diesel, the Modi government has increased the production cost in the farm sector while the support price was increased by a meager 1-4 percent, he added.
