A fishing pond built under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MNREGS) has helped a resident of Eramhar in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district to finally taste prosperity in life.
MNREGS is opening new avenues for the poor as they earn handsomely under schemes that are livelihood oriented.
A fishing pond was dug in Narad's field. He sprayed fish seeds worth Rs 10,000 and earned Rs 90,000. This year too he has invested Rs 10,000 in the fishing pond.
Apart from fishing, Narad also used the pond water to grow vegetables, earning an additional income of Rs 50,000. An official statement said his family is now progressing towards prosperity.
