Millers not showing interest in paddy

Stipulated date for paddy purchase on minimum support price has expired, but four lakh odd tonnes of paddy still lying on grounds.

Almost a month has gone by since the delivery orders have been duly issued by the offices but rice millers have kept distance from centres, not showing interest to purchase the paddy. It is said that if situation remains so then the month of March will also remain untraded.

Three lakh 90 thousand quintal paddy stacked on deferent purchase centres in the district. One lakh 75 thousand quintals in kaner, one lakh 48 thousand quintal in Bastar, 35 thousand quintals in sukama, 23 thousand quintals in  Bijapur, 4 in Dantewada and 400 quintals in Narayanpur’s big stacks are yet to be traded.

Despite delivery orders, millers are not intending to buy paddy, hence process of issuing orders are also put on hold.

Reportedly, the Food Corporation of India refrained from the millers and this attitude of FCI helping to augment the stress level in millers. On the other hand, sudden climatic change may also lead to damage the quality and spoil the stacked paddy on the open ground.
