A 45-year-old migrant worker who had returned to Bilaspur from Pune has died at the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur, where he was admitted after his health deteriorated steadily in a quarantine centre at Masturi.
The man had returned to Bilaspur on May 21 through a Shramik Special train from Pune. He was then sent to the quarantine centre.
He was shifted to CIMS after he began suffering from cough and cold and had fever and other problems. But before his coronavirus related test report came in, he died.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Bilaspur Dr Pramod Mahajan said: “The sample was sent for testing. The report is awaited. Only when we get it the reason for death can be confirmed.”
The death comes amid a spike in coronavirus positive cases among migrant workers who returned to Chhattisgarh from other states.
The Health department has kept the body in a mortuary and sealed it.
Hospital doctors said that if the sample report comes negative, then the body will be handed over to the relatives for cremation. But if he is found positive, then the cremation would be done based on the guidelines.
Till date, 172 Covid-19 positive cases have been detected in Chhattisgarh, out of which 62 patients have recovered.
The number of active patients is 110 who are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. The state has not recorded any death.
