The garden in front of the Raipur Municipal Corporation will soon display a fighter jet MiG 21 of Indian Air Force. Parts of the jet arrived here at RMC from Kolkata on Thursday which will soon be assembled by a technical team. The parts were brought in three trucks. Once, the parts of the jet are assembled, the entire responsibility to maintain the exhibit will be upon RMC.

The Air Force had informed the RMC in advance that parts of the jet will be sent to the city on Thursday at around 1 pm. They had also asked the civic body beforehand to make arrangements to place the jet. The RMC have promptly made all the arrangements to receive the MiG and had also created a raised platform where the jet will be displayed. The jet will be kept on a raised platform at a corner of the park. It is expected that the MiG 21 will be put up on display within a week.

The commuters around the area stopped their vehicles out of curiosity to check as the trucks reached the RMC building on Thursday. It may also be noted that earlier Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak had requested the Air Force for artillery cannons and Vijayant Tank for the city. The cannons are kept in front of the RMC building whereas the tank is displayed at Anupam Garden.

When Nayak suggested asking the Air Force for the MiG, the proposal was met with an encouraging response from Governor Shekhar Dutt. The proposal was then sent to the Air Force where it was accepted.
