Merits decide BJP chiefs not genetics, says Shah

BJP chief Amit Shah on Friday said that merits are the criteria for selection of the BJP chiefs unlike the Congress where genetics is the criteria for becoming party chief.

“Everyone knows that after Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi will become the next Congress president. But no one knows who will be the BJP president after me,’’ Shah remarked while addressing Intellectuals Meet in Raipur.

He added that in a parliamentary form of Government, party and its philosophy matters more than anything. Making a veiled attack on Congress, the BJP chief observed, “Internal democracy in any party is important, in BJP a tea-seller becomes Prime Minister and a boy posted posters is now its president,’’.

He further said, “We (BJP) have remained committed to our ideology and values for over decades that is why we grown from  10 members to 11 crores’’. He said that that the party’s aim was not to make prime ministers but to make India a world leader.

While inaugurating ‘Modi Fest’ in Raipur, an exhibition showcasing achievements of three-year rule of the BJP Government at the Centre, Shah said the NDA Government has proved that it can simultaneously develop villages and industry, and not even the Opposition can accuse it of corruption after three years in power.

“Earlier, it would be asked whether the Government of the day was pro-farmers or pro-industry. But the Modi Government has proved that it can develop farmers as well as the industry,” Shah said, adding this Government has completed three years, but neither the media nor the Opposition can accuse it of corruption. This is a transparent and decisive Government.”

Shah is currently in Chhattisgarh on a three-day visit which will conclude on Saturday. The basic purpose of his trip to the mineral-rich State is to charge up party workers for registering 4th straight victory in Assembly polls due in late 2018.
