Raipur City Mayor Dr Kiranmayee Nayak and three Medical Council of  India (MCI)  members on Tuesday met Principal Secretary of Urban Administration Department R P Mandal over the issue of rising Jaundice related deaths in the city.

During the discussion, they strongly opposed the performance of the sanitation contractors and demanded action against them. They said the spread of Jaundice was due to the contamination in main supply line which passes below the drains.  The drains are not being cleaned as a result, the drinking water is getting polluted and the same is reaching homes.

Nayak said the D D Nagar and several areas of the city have been under the grip of Jaundice for the past one month and hundreds of people have been affected by the disease. It has caused the death of about two dozen people .

It was happening due to the negligence of the Kivar company which has been entrusted with the task of waste management, she said. The situation was never so bad before, she said.

After Nayak, RMC Health Department Chief Gyanesh Sharma, Purna Prakash Jha, Asha Joseph and Corporator Rakesh Dhotre presented their point of views and told Mandal about the unhygienic conditions in the city.
