The tussle between Mayor Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) Dr Kiranmayee Nayak and Tourism Minister Brijmohan Agrawal took a fresh turn on Monday after the Mayor directed RMC officials to serve notice to Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) over proposed construction of ‘Choupati’ on ‘Budha Talab Parikrama Path.’
Noteworthy here is that the tug of war between the Tourism Minister and Mayor was publicly seen in a program at New Rajendra Nagar during the dedication of a community hall and garden on Sunday. Both the leaders had indulged in mudslinging during the programme.
According to official information received from RMC the Mayor on Monday reached Madhav Rao Supre Higher Secondary School along with RMC officers to review the progress of grass planting work underway at the school. later on she expressed deep displeasure over digging the circular road around Budha Talab for construction of ‘Choupati’. The Mayor also noted that digging of road was causing inconvenience to daily commuters. The RMC officials told Mayor that they had already sent few letters to CTB in this connection. Over this the Mayor told Zone Commissioner and Executive Engineer to send an official notice to CTB.
The Mayor was of view that Degree Girls College and Dani Girls School and its hostel are near the spot selected by CTB for ‘Choupati’ and under these circumstances its (Choupati) construction is impractical and could cause problem to the residents of area.
Dr Kiranmayee Nayak also ordered digging of tube well in the school compound to solve the drinking water problem in the school. The Mayor also inspected developmental works going on at Gandhi Maidan. The Mayor instructed the RMC officials to complete the concrete road construction at Gandhi Maidan by the end of next month without compromising with quality.
