With the intention to thwart ongoing developmental work, Maoists on Friday set a tanker carrying diesel on fire in insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Thereafter, traffic movement on the Bijapur-Bhopalpattanm road was affected for several hours.  To protest construction work underway between Bijapur and Bhopalpattanm, police said,  rebels torched a tanker engaged in transportation of diesel.  The tanker belonging to one Patil Construction was heading towards Awapalli. The incident severely affected traffic on the route as the tanker was filled with diesel and the probability of an explosion was high. After being informed,  a police team rushed to the spot and started to douse flames flaring high on air, said police. A constable was injured in a blast executed by insurgency on Thursday here. He was airlifted to Raipur where he is responding well to the treatment.
