leftists insurgents allegedly set ablaze 10 vehicles engaged in road construction work in restive Bijapur district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Madded area, about 400 km south of State capital Raipur.
The vehicles, which were torched by the ultras included seven tractors, one water tanker and a JCB machine. The construction of the roads was being carried out under the 'Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana'.
Earlier in the first week of January, Maoists torched six vehicles in Balrampur district located near Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh border.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, Maoists killed a 24-year-old man, employee of a road contractor, in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district, police said on Sunday. There remains not doubt that these kinds of incidents create terror in the minds of common men.
The deceased man's 10-year-old sister-in-law was also injured in the incident at Gatam village under Katekalyan police station limits.
Manoj Podiyam,(24), the deceased, was working as an accountant ('munshi') with a private contractor engaged in road construction work in the area.
Naxals stormed into Podiyam's house at Gatam, around 400 km from here, Saturday late night, and shot him in front of his wife, police informed. Podiyam's sister-in-law Muskan Mandavi (10) was hit in the leg by a bullet.
After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and shifted the injured girl to a local hospital where her condition is reported to be stable. Police and the CRPF have launched a combing operation in the region to track down assailants.
