Maoists kill tribal in 'Jan Adalat'

Maoists kidnapped and killed a tribal on suspicion of being a police informer after holding a ‘Jan Adalat’ in insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Bastar, a senior police official said.

The body of the deceased villager, identified as Chaitu Uika (27) was later recovered by security forces near Chokanpal village under Gangaloor police station limits, Bijapur District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kl Dhruv said.

As per preliminary information, the armed ultras abducted Uika from his native place Kamkanar, located around 8 kms away from Gangaloor and tortured him, he said.

Though no complaint was lodged with the police regarding his abduction, the matter came to light when some villagers informed police that Uika was murdered by Naxals after holding a ‘Jan Adalat’ in Chokanpal, the SP further said.

Acting on the tip-off, the security forces were rushed to the place and recovered Uika's body from the forest, the official said, adding that the body was brought to Gangaloor for the postmortem, he said.

The Maoists beat up Uika in a Jan Adalat after branding him as a police informer and then strangulated him, the official said, adding that security forces have launched a combing operation in the region to trace the ultras.
