A police jawan was killed by Maoists in insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Bastar, police said.
The incident took place at Kuprel village coming under Farsegarh police station limits when the Assistant Constable Tarun Sodi (29) had gone there for some personal work, Bijapur District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kl Dhruv said.
A group of ultras reached into the village and shot Sodi before slitting his throat with a sharp edged weapon, the SP further said.
The attackers escaped from the spot after committing the crime, he said.
After villagers informed, a police team was rushed to the spot and his body was brought for postmortem, the senior police official further said.
Meanwhile, a combing operation was launched in the region to nab the assailants, he added.
