nAccusing them of being spies, Maoists expelled 13 members of two families, one of them blind, in village Palamdagu in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, forcing them to walk 5 km in rain to reach another village with a meagre possession of ration and cattle.
The incident took place on Friday in the Polampally police station limits. The distraught families reached Polampally village to take shelter.
Sukma District Collector Chandan Kumar sent an administrative team to ensure relief to the homeless. The team, led by Tehsildar, ensured food, blankets and other primary relief to them.
Sukma correspondent Aman Singh Bhadhauria reports that Naxalites held a ‘Jan Adalat’ or kangaroo court where allegations of spying were imposed on the family members. A decree was passed to expel all of them from the village.
During interaction with the correspondent, the family members said that they have had to leave all their land, house and other materials behind.
They demanded a house, land and employment from the administration to survive.
The expelled family members are Madkam Podiya, Madkam Mase, Madkam Kosa, Madkam Savitri, Madkam Pandu, Madmak Jogi, Madkam Deve (blind), Madkam Dhurva, Madkam Hadme, Madkam Bheema, Madkam Mukke, Madkam Handa, Madkam Gangi, and Madkam Moda.
Four children of the family have been admitted in POTA Cabin schools at Polampally.
Directives have been given to Panchayat authorities to ensure they get work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).
“This is the brutal face of Naxalites," said Akhilesh Kaushik, Sub Divisional Officer (Police), Dornapal. "On the one side they speak about the rights of tribals and on the other they level false allegations and kill or expel villagers... Earlier, members of the family had been killed by Naxalites.
