The Maoist rebels after lying low for long, resorted to violence in the restive Sukma district on Monday night blocking road traffic in various areas of the district digging pits on the roads. According to information received here, they dug several pits at various places on the roads between Burkapal and Chintalnar near Dornapal and Jagargunda and blocked the road traffic for several hours until police cleared the way filling the pits.

According to the police, the motive of the rebels appeared to disrupt a public grievances redressal camp, scheduled to be held at Jagargunda. The 150th Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and District Force had started a combing operation in the area.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the rebels had also dug roads between Injaram and Errabore leading to traffic blockade there as well.
