A Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head was killed on Friday in a gun battle with security forces in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The gunfight took place in a forest near Pusnar village with the District Reserve Guard and the 85th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Anjaneya Vaishnav said.

The operation was launched following inputs about the presence of 20-25 Maoists of the Gangalur Area Committee in the forests on Thursday.

After the battle ended, the body of a Naxalite, identified as Toya Potam alias Somlu (30), was found, the officer said.
