A Transit camp of Maoists was busted by security forces following a fierce gun battle with insurgents in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kondagaon district in Bastar, police said on Thursday. The security personnel recovered a cache of materials used in making explosives. “The gun battle between security personnel and rebels took place in restive Tuskal forests under Iragaon police station limits last evening," said Kondagoan Superintendent of Police (SP), JS Watti.
Two tiffin bombs, explosive materials, 15 detonators, electric wire, couple of camera flashes, Maoist literatures, medicines and other Maoist -related items besides commodities of daily use were recovered from the site , he said. A team of security personnel was carrying out search operation in Iragaon and Dhanora regions when on reaching Sawalwahi village, they received a tip-off about gathering of a large group of Maoists in Tuskal forest.
On sensing the presence of security personnel, armed rebels opened fire on them following which the former returned fire. However, on finding troopers closing on them after intermittent firing for about half-an-hour, the insurgents escaped into the dense forest, Watti said. However, no casualties have been reported after the encounter, he added.
