Maoist issue: Congress bid to counter BJP charges

Published on:

Making a scathing attack on the statement of BJP State vice president and spokesperson Sachhidanand Upasane, the chairman of Congress Media department Shailesh Nitin Trivedi on Monday said that inspite of issuing incoherent statements on Naxalism the BJP leader should re-study the activities of the government of his own party.

He said that the Naxalites have allowed Vikas Yatra unflinchingly, but attacked Parivartan Yatra barbariously. The Maoists boycott elections, whereas, complaints pours in about irregularities in election by BJP through misuse of government machinery. Both these things proved that the BJP was working in collusion with the Maoists, not the Congress, he alleged.

He said that the BJP should have done some soul searching before casting allegations on the Congress. The policies and intentions of the BJP were responsible for the flourishing of Maoism in the state during the nine-and-a-half-year rule of Raman government. Because of the indolence and carelessness of the Raman government the naxalism reached the cities from the far-flung areas of Chhattisgarh, Trivedi said.

The Congress leader said that the threat of naxalites has reach up to the Gariyaband, Saraipalli, Sarangarh, Balod and Dillirajhara areas which were near to the State capital.

The Maoism, which had almost been routed out from Sarguja during the reign of the Congress, has now increased its activities in Sarguja and Jashpur also. Naxalism was well nourished during the BJP government period, he alleged.

Trivedi alleged that the BJP government did not make any economic, social and tactical policy to solve the naxal problem during its decade old rule. During the last two elections the BJP has been getting unexpected success in the naxal affected areas and because of which the naxal policy of the BJP government always remained in the circle of questions, he added.
