A couple of dreaded Maoist insurgents who were charged with killing and loot of innocent people in restive Bastar, surrendered on Monday police said.
Bijapur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal informed that Jagat lekam (25) and his wife Vimla Karam (24), members of a military company of Maoist surrendered. The surrendered couple claimed before police that they were forced by Maoists to join the terror outfit when they were teens. They also said that they decided to join mainstream of society as they strongly believe that Maoists were involved in loot and creating terror among common people rather than fighting for any bigger cause.
Vimla, who joined Maoists cadre in 2006, claimed that she was denied basic necessities, humiliated, thrashed and abused by the senior Maoist members. The couple will be rehabilitated as per the surrender policies of the Centre and Chhattisgarh government, Agrawal added.
In a separate incident, a Maoist cadre Budhram Markam, was arrested during a joint search operation of District Force and BSF from Chingnar village under Tadoki police station limits in Kanker district.
Markam was involved several cases of crime including robbery, arson and murder, police said.
