Feeling exploited and harassed by the Maoist leaders of Andhra Pradesh, a Maoist commander of Bastar and his wife surrendered before the police here on Monday.
The insurgent was carrying a reward of Rs2 lakh for his arrest, police said.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Kondagaon, Abhishek Meena said that Sampat, alias Satte, alias Usaru (38), was the Commander of Military Platoon Number 6 of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).
His wife Asmati Netam (22) was a doctor in the outlawed organisation and carried a reward of Rs1 lakh.
“They both felt cheated and exploited by the senior Maoist cadres of Andhra Pradesh and were also willing to join the mainstream and therefore surrendered before Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar, SRP Kalluri,” said Meena, adding, that the couple was being convinced for some time about the rehabilitation policy and facilities offered by the Chhattisgarh Government.
A resident of Padeli village under Mardapal police station of Kondagaon district, Sampat was associated with the movement since 1995. He was elevated to the rank of Commander of Guerilla Squad in 2000 and held the position till 2004.
The insurgent then worked with Military Company 6 since 2004 and was made the Commander of the Eastern Bastar Division of the company in 2010, police said.
Sampat was involved in many Naxal activities along with senior leaders like CPI (Maoist) Secretary Ganpati, Central Committee members such as Bhupati, Kosanna, Ramanna, Devji, Sudhakar, Ramu, Gudsa, Kamlesh,
Arjun etc.
He was indulged in heinous crimes like loot, arson, murder etc in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha and the Chhattisgarh government had declared a reward of Rs2 lakh on his head.
Sampat informed the police that he got married to Anita (40), a member of the organisation in 2006 but he and many other Maoists of Chhattisgarh were forced to undergo vasectomy.
His wife Asmati is a resident of Kaushalpara under Dhaudai police station of Narayanpur district and had joined the movement in 2008. She had undergone a three months training for working as a doctor in the banned outfit, police said.
The duo had fallen in love while working in the company number 6. However, they were dissatisfied by the working of senior leaders.
Sampat alleged that the Maoists of Chhattisgarh face discrimination. The leaders of Andhra Pradesh often put them in front during ambush and other risky operations. The cadres of Bastar division are not permitted to plan for children and forced for sterilization. The senior commanders of Andhra Pradesh take away crores of rupees of levy charged for Tendupatta and construction works. The children of these senior leaders of Andhra Pradesh study abroad while Chhattisgarh cadres do not get enough even to survive, police said.
