A Maoist couple, each carrying cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on their arrest were nabbed during an operation carried out by security forces in a forested patch of insurgency-hit Kanker District, police said here on Thursday.

“Police had intelligence input that few Naxals were spotted in the jungles of lohattar and accordingly, a team of security personnel from Bhanupratappur swung into action and reached the spot from where both the Naxals were nabbed,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Naxal operations, Jayant Vaishnav said.

According to the police, they were identified as Manker Anchala alias Sandeep and his wife Kunti Usendi alias Sarita, both residents of Rajnandgaon District. They were members of Naxal Madanwada lOS.

At Manpur Police station, Sandeep was wanted in connection in three cases-one at Sitagaon and Aundhi Police station issued three arrest warrants against him; so he was handed over to Rajnandgaon police, the DSP said.

Similarly, police was searching for Kunti for her involvement in about 10 different cases registered with various police stations of Bhanupratappur. Cases were also registered against Kunti at Manpur, Sitagaon and Aundhi police station, he said.

Both carried rewards of Rs 1 lakh each on their arrest. In addition to it, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Durg had declared reward of Rs 30,000 on Sandeep’s head, while SP Kanker had declared reward of Rs 3,000 on Kunti’s arrest.

The couple was involved in various attacks carried out on police parties and was associated with banned Naxal organisation Communist Party of India (Maoist) for about nine years, the DSP mentioned.
