A Maoist couple on Wednesday surrendered at the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) headquarters of Chhattisgarh police citing disillusionment with Naxal ideology, a police official said.

Both of them were carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh each on their head and were allegedly involved in the abduction of the then Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), Ashok Singh, informed The Pioneer that the couple named Ravindranna and Reena, allegedly involved in abduction of the then Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon gave themselves up at Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) headquarters in the capital before the Special Director General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operation) D M Awasthi.

Ravindranna, who was Commander (SlR) of the Maoist outfit was also involved in a number of deadly attacks on security forces.

He and his wife Reena alias Budli were natives of Kogunda in Bastar region. Reena was Area KMS President of the Maoist outfit.

Both of them had promised the police of returning to mainstream who had joined the Naxal movement in the year 2008, he said.

After getting associated with Maoism in 2008, Ravindranna worked in different capacities in the banned outfit.

He had been instrumental in executing several deadly attacks on security forces in the Naxal belt, the SP said.

The husband-wife duo, in a statement, said they were fed up with the "hollow" Maoist ideology and were also impressed by the State Government's surrender policy. “After all to what extent we could fight against the Government”, they said.

They will be provided facilities as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the State Government, Singh added.
