A 39-year-old Maoist was nabbed by joint squad of Border Security Force (BSF) and District Force (DF) in insurgency-hit Kanker district of Bastar on Friday, police said.

The security personnel undertaking combing operation have arrested the rebel from a restive village in the district, said Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) JN Meena, adding that the arrested cadre has been identified as Shashikant Tekam (39).

According to him, while undertaking combing operation in the region, security personnel received a tip-off about presence of Tekam in a village following which the joint squad was mobilised towards the village.

Tekam was arrested after a short chase. During the course of interrogation, he revealed his identity and admitted his links with rebels and Maoist movement.

“The arrested cadre was involved in various incidents which took place in the region and several warrants were also pending against him,” Meena said.
