Man kills foster mother over property dispute

Police has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering his foster mother over a “property dispute.”

The elderly woman adopted the accused while he was a toddler, police said here on Tuesday.

The victim who was a Samaritan, had pledged to donate her body to the medical college after death and the accused was aware of this fact, police informed.

“The accused, Sudeep Bose had strangulated Hemprabha Bose (68) in her house at Professors Colony on the intervening night of February 25 and 26 and then donated the body to a medical hospital. He was aware of the fact that the bodies donated for medical research are not subjected to post-mortem,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prafull Thakur said.

Few days ago victim’s neighbours informed Purani Basti police that Hemprabha was not seen and her son was also acting suspiciously, the ASP said.

“Victim’s brother Jagdish Chandra Bose, a resident of Kanker, who also got information from neighbours about his sister being missing, came to Raipur. The accused told him that Hemprabha died of natural cause and as per her last wish the body was donated to the medical college,” the ASP informed.

The victim had retired from the post of assistant commissioner, Income Tax and was living here with Sudeep.

Victim’s brother told police that Sudeep used to torture his sister over property issue.

Acting on his complaint, police registered a case and victim’s body was sent for post-mortem. The short post-mortem report clearly suggested strangulation as reason of death, the APS added.

According to the ASP the victim had adopted Sudeep when he was just one-and-half years old.

The accused was arrested and booked under Section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), police informed.
