Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday arrested the 49-year-old director of a Noida (Uttar Pradesh) firm for cheating a woman of Rs 16 crores by promising her zone-level distributorship of TV channels for Chhattisgarh in March 2019.
Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav told The Pioneer that Vivek Prakash, director of Pental Technologies Pvt Ltd, has been taken into custody.
In March 2019, Preeti Singhal Mundra, a resident of Raipur, told the police that Atul Mishra, Vivek Prakash, Ajay Rathore and others duped her of Rs 16 crores by promising her distributorship of transmission of 500 channels in Chhattisgarh.
After getting the money from the woman in various bank accounts, she was not given the promised distributorship, the officer added.
Based on technical analysis of bank account numbers and mobile call records, one of the accused was arrested from Noida and brought to Raipur on transit remand, Yadav said.
The police have launched a manhunt for the others involved in the crime.
