The State Congress on Monday asked the Central Government to make public the report of National Investigating Agency on Darbha valley Maoist attack in which several of its leaders were killed.
Party leaders who staged a sit-in demonstration here said it was unfortunate that the report had not yet been made public even seven months after the incident.
Senior Congress leaders including Shiv Narayan Dwivedi, Anjay Shukla and Daulat Rohra who staged the protest said it was a matter of shame that the people were yet to know who was involved in the crime and surprisingly no one had been arrested so far in the barbaric crime.
The Central Government should immediately make the report public and take strong actions against those who were involved, they said. The leaders said at least 32 Congress leaders including then State Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, and senior leaders Mahendra Karma, Vidya Charan Shukla, Uday Mudliar and Yogesh Sharma were killed in the incident that took place on May 25.
On the other hand, the senior leaders had promised to provide party tickets to slain leaders kin. They had also promised that the family of the slain leaders would be given chance to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi but nothing was done, they alleged. Similarly no financial assistance was provided by the party to the bereaved families. They also alleged that tall leaders of the party have been arrogant and self centric.
Probably it was the reason why the Congress party suffered a humiliating defeat in the recently concluded assembly election, they charged. If the same attitude of the senior leaders prevailed, nobody would able to save the Congress party in the State, they pointed out. If the Government did not make the report public soon the Congress leaders would be forced to take their protest to New Delhi, they threatened.
Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi also arrived at the dharna venue to demand making the NIA report public.
