Congress member Motilal Dewangan informed the Chhattisgarh Assembly that there is one chit fund company which had defrauded investors in Janjgir-Champa district with alleged connections with the Sarada Chit Fund company of Kolkata in West Bengal.
Dewangan, during the question hour had demanded to know from the Home Minister Ramsevak Paikara what action is being taken against the chit fund companies which had defrauded people in the district.
To this, the Home Minister stated that the powers granted to the police is limited and action could only be taken against the accused under sections 420 and 409.
Meanwhile , Paikara in a written reply to Dewangan informed the Chhattisgarh Assembly that FIR had been registered against 15 Chit Fund companies which have defrauded 1689 investors to the tune of Rs 22,52,91,772 during 2014-15.
The Minister informed that six directors, eight officials and 26 agents of the aforesaid 15 companies have been arrested and there are three cases of arrests not made so far.
