lift helmet rule in busy areas, demands Cong

The Congress city wing’s president Vikas Upadhyay accused the traffic police of “misbehaving and extorting money” from two-wheeler riders in the name of ongoing helmet checking drive.

Upadhyay, in a Press release issued on Sunday, claimed that the police have unnecessarily erected checking points at ways going towards main markets while no such point was installed at the Ring Road.

“Checking drive is being carried out near crowded areas including Goal Bazaar, Bijali Daftar Chowk, Jaistambh Chowk, Azad Chowk, Aamapara Chowk, Shankar Nagar Chowk, Fafadih Chowk and Purani Basti Chowk, where vehicles hardly cross the speed of 20 kmph” he claimed.

The police was creating an atmosphere of fear. These checking points have been erected only for extorting money from the two-wheeler riders, alleged the Congress leader. He demanded removal of all the checking points from main markets and busy areas of the city as there was no need of wearing helmet.

“A delegation of Raipur city Congress committee will soon meet Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the district collector to apprise them about their demand” Upadhyay added.
