Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday announced that the State Government will enact a law on protection of journalists in the State.
The Chief Minister had already issued a directive in this regard to prepare a draft Bill.
With the passage of the Bill in the State Assembly, Chhattisgarh would be the first in the country to have a law to protect journalists. The Congress party's poll manifesto had made a promise to enact a law for protection of journalists on a priority basis.
Baghel has directed officials that a draft Bill would be prepared by studying provisions for protection of journalists existing in other states after consulting journalists, human rights and legal experts.
