Thanks to laser angioplasty, a 30-year-old youth was saved by doctors at the Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI) of Chhattisgarh’s biggest hospital here, the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Medical College Hospital, on Tuesday.
Dr Smit Shrivastav said the youth was brought to ACI after a heart attack. The immediate investigation revealed a large blood clot which had completely blocked a major artery (Ostial left anterior descending artery).
Observing his young age, the doctors decided to vaporize the blood clot by laser to avoid a further heart attack. The procedure was completed in half hour. The blocked artery blood circulation was restored to normal, he said.
This is for the first time in India that such a process had been adopted where the blood clot was vaporized with laser, Dr Shrivastava said.
