land scam: Cong wants special session to discuss CAG report

The Congress, protesting land scams at Bharoda village in Bilaspur district, on Saturday launched a three-day Statewide district-level dharna. Senior party leaders also attended the dharna, which will conclude on March 25.

President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) Nand Kumar Patel alleged that the State Government presented the report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on the last day of the Assembly Session so that the issue could not be discussed.

Patel, besides seeking resignation from the Chief Minister, Raman Singh, demanded a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue. CAG in its report had mentioned serious irregularities in land deal at Bharoda village under Masturi Assembly constituency of Bilaspur.

The CGPCC president charged the State Government with continuous corruption in mineral and power sectors. The benefit provided to Adani Group recently is a glaring example of corruption, he added.

“The State is awe-struck with scams in energy department and coal blocks. These things make obvious that Ministers are misusing their power,” alleged Patel.

Earlier, in a joint statement, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ravindra Choubey and Nand Kumar Patel said that Chhattisgarh State Power Company with the support of the State Government had illegally charged Rs252.63 crore from the residents of the State.

The duo further said that CAG in its report had stated that due to wrong taxes imposed the whopping sum of Rs252.63 crore was collected from the people of the State. By wrong meter reading and charging of double taxes, the State Government had betrayed the denizens, who were already struggling because of inflation, they said.
