A mishap on Friday claimed a labourer’s life and left another injured in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, police said, adding that the incident took place in the plant premises of Monnet Ispat and Energy limited.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Durgesh Yadav (23) and injured was identified as Jitendra Gupta (26). The duo hail from Uttar Pradesh.
After being informed about the mishap, a police team rushed to the spot to conduct investigation .
The duo was engaged in some maintenance work at a blast furnace in the plant functioning in village Naharpali falling under limits of Bhupdeopur police station during afternoon hours, said Raigarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Shukla.
Initial investigation taken up by police hints that while undertaking maintenance work, the duo may have inhaled poisonous gas (Carbon Monoxide) and collapsed, added Shukla.
They were taken to a nearby hospital where Durgesh Yadav was declared dead while Jitendra was reported to be out of danger, he informed.
Police have sent the body of victim for autopsy and waiting for reports following which further course of action will be taken, Shukla said .
