On the occasion of National Education Day, a talk on Citizen Journalism was organised at Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication (KTUJM) here.
Philip Roskamp, Public Affairs Officer (PAO), US Consulate, Mumbai was the speaker on the occasion.
Addressing students, the US official spoke about how the revolution in information technology has changed the way of news gathering and news reading in democracies. “The arrival of the round-the-clock news format and its access over mobile phones has changed the perception of news reading”, he said.
Roskamp further said this technological advent has made information sharing easy for a wider public and hence strengthening the democracy. He said that credibility of news over internet and social networking sites is low as compared to news over traditional media but hoped that over the time their credibility would go up.
Roskamp also elaborated how the US diplomats and other officials based in offices across the globe use social networking sites and other internet based tools to communicate with US citizens and also remain in contact with them round-the-clock to provide all kind of support and safety.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Sachchidanand Joshi presided over the talk session. The faculty members and students were present on the occasion.
