Junior Doctors at the government's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Medical College-cum-Hospital at Bastantpur in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district on Tuesday began a two-day protest to demand action against people who assaulted some doctors recently.

According to the Medical College Junior Doctor Association, family members of a patient abused and assaulted the doctors and damaged government       property.

After the incident, the Hospital filed a complaint with the police demanding the arrest of the culprits.

Association leaders said that till Tuesday no action had been initiated against the attackers.

In protest against the police inaction, the Junior Doctors of the Emergency ward worked on Tuesday after tying a black strip on their hand. This will continue on Wednesday too.

If the police still take no action, the Out Patient Department (OPD) will be shut down, they warned.

The association wants the administration to arrest the culprits and book them under the Chhattisgarh Medical Protection Act and Epidemic Act, enhance security in the College-cum-Hospital and shunt out the police outpost in-charge in the hospital premises.
