Social media is a weapon of journalism. Western nations have learned to use it, however, we are yet to learn this aspect. Technology is continuously changing and scribes will have to adopt those changes, stated senior journalist Vinod Verma while speaking at the orientation session of Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass communication here on Friday.
He remarked: “We need to have knowledge of translation and relation between different genres of journalism and language. Now a journalist will have to become ‘Journocrate’, which means he will have to become a master in use of technology and will have to take quick decisions like bureaucrats.” “In the present scenario, we need not go to news, but news reaches our pockets through mobile phones,” Verma said.
Senior Journalist and Editor Ruchir Garg said that there was a long distance between taking a degree and becoming journalist which needs preparation. “Journalism is an intervention not a tool to change or improve society. Today, we need a mission,” he said.
Stressing on Rural journalism, he asked students to join FM Radio and television.
Sudeep Thakur, another senior journalist was of the view that journalism is an art; however with time, its professional form is in front of us.
“A good journalist is one who has an urge to do something,” he remarked, adding, that there was a need to improve language. The occasion was marked with presence of Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Sachchidanand Joshi and the university staff.
