Journalism is not an ordinary profession, but a massive ritual for truth. The profession does not provide any space for cheating,” stated Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh while speaking at the second convocation ceremony of Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication (KTUJM) here on Saturday.
Citing the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, Singh said along with meeting the aspiration of masses, journalists would have to see that the work they are doing is benefitting the country as well as society or not.
The Union Home Minister was present as chief guest of the Convocation ceremony presided over by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.
On the occasion, degrees were conferred to 234 students, two PhD scholars and three M.Phil scholars. Meanwhile, the Home Minister also released the souvenir of KTUJM.
Addressing the gathering, Singh said with the emergence of social media like Facebook and Twitter in this modern era, journalism turned out to be more challenging as compared to previous times. The news related to elimination of wanted terrorist Osama Bin laden was first flashed in Twitter, he said.
Highlighting the importance of education, the Union Minister said “through education, we are able to gather important knowledge for the society. Some people utilize their knowledge for wrong purpose so it is not just enough to get knowledge but a person should have sense of responsibility towards the society.”
Presiding over the function, Chief Minister Raman Singh greeted students for their bright future and said “you studied journalism in Chhattisgarh, so wherever you go, your journalism should be rooted in the State.”
Senior TV journalist Rajat Kumar, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal, Higher Education Minister Prem Prakash Pandey, Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, MP Ramesh Bais, MlA (Raipur rural) Satyanarayan Sharma and others registered their presence in the function.
