The war of attrition between Chhattisgarh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress took a further ugly turn with former Chief Minister and All India Congress Working Committee member Ajit Jogi sending Rs2.20 crore defamation notice to BJP national general secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge JP Nadda who allegedly remarked in a press conference recently that Ajit Jogi as well as the Congress have had links with Maoist organisation.
In his press note issued to the media on Sunday, Jogi charged that Nadda's statement was not only malicious, without any truth and defamatory, but also an insult to the Chhattisgarhi pride and self-respect of 2 crore 20 lakh people living here, forcing him to send Nadda a legal notice through his lawyer Ashok Sharma informing the BJP general secretary about filing a Rs2.20 crore libel suit, besides a separate criminal case in the court of law.
The legal notice is likely to open a Pandora’s box in the State’s political circle as more fireworks are set to come into the open. Nadda was not available to comment on the notice.
