Jogi slams BJP over rail fare hike

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Ajit Jogi on Sunday slammed the BJP-led Government for ‘increasing the inflation rate’ by enforcing a ‘historical’ hike in rail fare.

While expressing his concerns, Jogi accused the ruling BJP Government at the Centre of giving a ‘powerful shock’ to the public on the pretext of promising ‘good days ahead’.

“The decision will mess up everyone’s budget” claimed Jogi, in a statement issued here. Jogi said that UPA Government never proposed such a huge hike in its decade long regime. “While BJP Government is encouraging the people to be ready to bear some hard decisions, their ministers are spending huge money on foreign tours. The BJP’s Prime Minister, who got absolute mandate in recent polls, will prove as weakest PM ever” Jogi predicted. Jodi termed the move as a dictatorial decision that also showed their managerial incapability.

“First time in the history, the finance and other ministers have to come forward to defend their own government’s decision of increasing rail fare” Jogi claimed. He asked the government to withdraw the hike or the Congress party will launch a series of agitations against the decision. From June 25 this year, rail passenger fares will increase by 14.2 percent and freight rates by 6.5 percent as decided by the Railway ministry. The last fare hike was in October 2013.
