Jogi pulls up Govt over paddy row, Maoist menace

A day after former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi was declared Congress party candidate for lok Sabha from Mahasamund seat, he came down heavily on BJP-led State Government for its failure in providing increased support price to farmers over paddy, increase of Naxal activities and migration of labours.

The wheelchair-bound Congress leader was addressing a Press conference at his residence here on Wednesday.Over his decision to contest election after he had decided to take rest from active politics for one year, Jogi said it was a decision of the party president Sonia Gandhi which he is following.

Jogi told the reporters that the BJP regime completed its 100 days on Wednesday. In these days, the State Government has not only failed in keeping its promises but has actually worked quite opposite to what it had promised.According to the Congress stalwart, the farming area in Chhattisgarh has shrunk and the average paddy produce has also been the same. Inferior quality of paddy is being purchased from neighbouring areas of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh and that is shown in the State record. Based on these records, the State Government had recieved national prizes like Krishi Karman award.

He further alleged that people numbering in several lakhs from Jajgir-Champa and Bilaspur districts migrate to other States like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and others in search of work. This is a matter of shame for Chhattisgarh, Jogi added. Slamming the State Government over its failure on Naxal front, Jogi said the biggest achievement of State Government in these 100 days of its tenure was the killing of 15 jawans in Jeeram Ghati. In past 10 year Chhattisgarh has been on first place in incidents related to Maoists. After every big Naxal incident State Government has few things to say, ‘it is a cowardly act, there was failure and we will fight now or never’, he quipped.

Ajit Jogi dodged the questions related to internal rivalry getting intense after lok Sabh ticket distribution, saying he cannot comment on internal matters of party.
