Jogi plans to contest against Raman

Former Chief Minister and Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) Supremo Ajit Jogi said on Sunday that he has planned to contest against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in Assembly polls slated to be held later this year.

But he said that a formal announcement in this regard will be made later. Jogi had made the similar announcement in last Assembly polls in 2013 when he was in Congress, but later on failed to keep up his promise.

“I will make a public declaration regarding contesting against Raman Singh in a rally to be held in Rajnandgaon on February 11”, Jogi told reporters here.

He alleged that development in the State has been blocked since 2003 when BJP came to power. He assured that he was committed to reconstruction of the State after 2018 Assembly polls as the people have decided to bring his party into power.

Chhattisgarh has traditionally witnessed a bipolar contest between the BJP and the Congress but Jogi is trying hard to make a triangular fight for the 90-member assembly polls likely to be held in November this year.

Chhattisgarh’s main opposition Congress maintains that Jogi has been reduced to just Rs a paper tiger’ and lacks any appeal among masses after he broke away from Congress in 2017.
