The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress on Tuesday hauled up former Chief Minister and founder of Chhattisgarh Janta Congress (Jogi) Ajit Jogi for not stopping vehicle after a car of his convoy knocked down two persons in Mahasamund district.
Both the parties claimed that Jogi should have shown human decency and would have taken the duo to a hospital rather speeding away from the accident site. Meanwhile, Jogi had denied that his convoy has knocked down anyone and urged police to launch a fair probe into the matter and take action against those found guilty.
“Two persons were killed after a multi utility vehicle (MUV) ran over them near Benchhoda village under Mahasamund police station limit on Monday afternoon,” Additional Superintendent of Police Mahasamund Rakesh Bhatt said.
However, he maintained that the mishap happened long after Jogi’s vehicle passed from the spot. The driver had managed to flee from the spot and police was trying to nab him, he said.
“The accident occurred more than half-an-hour later of passing of Jogi’s carcade,” the ASP said.
In the meantime, BJP MlA Shrichand Sundarani taking a dig over Jogi, said few days back Ajit Jogi had staged ‘chakka jam’ and had demanded compensation of `25 lakh for persons killed in road accident in Raipur. However, today he do not have time to meet the family members of persons killed in the mishap, he quipped.
Chhattisgarh Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel while talking to reporters said “the incident is really very sad and Ajit Jogi should have stopped his vehicle immediately to take care of the duo’’.
Meanwhile, Congress party has formed a three member probe team to look into the incident. Former Congress party MlAs Mohammed Akbar, Ravindra Choubey and Kuldeep Juneja will investigate the issue and will submit their report to the party leaders, informed Chairman Congress media committee Gyanesh Sharma.
