Jogi backs CBI probe into 'scams' demand

Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi backed the demand of CBI probe into the alleged financial bungling in purchases of furniture and bicycle for school students charging that Ministers of the State Government have been fully involved in it.

Notably, peeved over the charges of corruption being levelled against him in these cases, Chief Secretary (CS) of Chhattisgarh Sunil Kumar has also asked the Government to order a CBI probe into the allegation, thereby putting the State Government in an awkward situation.

Reacting to the CS recommendation for a CBI probe against himself, Jogi charged that in the alleged Rs 60 crore Furniture and Bicycle purchase scam, which has been uncovered through documents obtained under RTI Act, ministers of the state government have been involved and if a CBI probe is ordered in it, the truth will automatically come to the light.

The former Chief Minister charged that earlier also scam of crores was unearthed in the purchases of State Textbook  Corporation, but even after coming it into public domain the State Government tried to cover it by cancelling the contract instead of taking action against the guilty. He also demanded a high level probe into it.

Jogi charged that having been indulged in scams of land acquisition, illegal mine allocation, purchase of plant saplings for forest department, school dress scam, medicine purchase scam, paddy procurement scam, PDS scam, Smart Card scam and others, the State Government is still engaged in corruption instead of ordering any inquiry just to save its Ministers. High level probe by investigation agencies would unmask the misdeeds of the corrupt ministers, he added.
