JCC-J to finalise candidates after talks with BSP

Published on:

Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) on Saturday authorised party supremo Ajit Jogi to hold talks with Bahujan Samaj Party  chief Mayawati before finalising its list of candidates for five seats in the state, days after it received a snub from the BSP that had unilaterally named candidates for other six seats.

Jogi was asked to hold the parleys at the party’s parliamentary board and core committee meeting.

“JCC-J will hold a meeting with the BSP for seat sharing. The core committee has deputed party patron Ajit Jogi to hold the negotiation and take the final decision. The alliance will continue in the state in lines of assembly election 2018,” Khairagarh MLA Devvrat Singh said emerging from the meeting.

He said the party will announce names of candidates for the remaining five seats, left vacant by the BSP, only after consulting Mayawati, and denied any fissure in the alliance dubbing it “rumour.”

“Mayawati is our prime ministerial candidate,” Singh added.

Out of 11 parliamentary seats in the state, the BSP on Tuesday named candidates for Bastar, Kanker, Janjgir, Sarguja, Raigarh and Durg.
