JCC (J) may ally with BJP for 2024 elections

The regional Janata Congress Chhattisgarh Jogi (JCC-J), founded by former Congress Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, may ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Speculation about a possible tie-up arose after party's President and the late Ajit Jogi's son Amit Jogi met Union Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Amit Jogi shared his photograph with Shah no X and said it was a courtesy meeting.

Ajit Jogi, who headed the Congress government in the state from 2000 to 2003, floated the JCC (J) in 2016 after parting ways with the grand old party. He contested the 2018 Assembly elections in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

After Ajit Jogi's death in 2020, Jogi junior is struggling to keep the JCC (J) flock together.

Though the JCC (J) could not influence the outcome in the 2023 Assembly polls, it succeeded in making inroads into the state politics, traditionally dominated by the BJP and the Congress. In 2018, the party won seats in the Assembly. It won no seat this time and its vote share has also dipped.
