Troopers of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces's (CAF) 6th Battalion poured out their woes as Director General of Police (DGP) D.M. Awasthi officially launched the ‘Spandan Abhiyan’ at a camp in a forested patch of Maoist insurgency-hit Kanker district on Monday.
As frustrated jawans moaned about non availability of mobile network access in their remote camp, the DGP instructed the Inspector General to quickly sort out the issue.
One jawan complained that there was only one borewell to provide drinking water. The DGP ordered that a second borewell be dug within 15 days.
The DGP also listened to several other complaints from the CAF personnel, official sources said.
Awasthi interacted with the jawans and instructed officials to quickly resolve them.
The ‘Spandan Abhiyan’ programme was announced by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel recently. It aims at minimising suicides and incidents of fratricide happening in police forces in Chhattisgarh.
“The main aim of ‘Spandan Abhiyan’ is to ensure that Chhattisgarh Police do not lose its jawan. Communication can solve any problem. Senior police officers will come to know your problem and will solve them. Your lives are precious,” the DGP told the troopers.
The DGP asked the Company Commander to sympathetically consider the leave requests of jawans who are in dire need.
The officer inaugurated a library at the camp and distributed sports items. He also joined the lunch with the jawans.
