The silence of Chhattisgarh State Human Rights Commission (CGHRC) even after death of 17 people due to jaundice outbreak in the State forced Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Munch to urge it (Rights panel) to step in to save the lives of people from the lethargy on the part of the administration.
According to vice-president of the Munch Rajkumar Gupta, it was quite surprising that the State rights panel remained silent even after 17 deaths on account of jaundice in the State. He claimed that the rights panel should have taken a suo moto notice of those deaths and initiated action against officials who were guilty.
Gupta, along with a delegation, called on the officials in the State human rights commission and apprised them about the serious violation of human rights of the people in the State on account of outbreak of the jaundice and other seasonal diseases following failure on the part of the administration to maintain hygiene and provide other basic facilities to them.
Holding the administration responsible for the death of 17 people, the delegation urged the rights panel to step in to save the situation from going from bad to worse and get an FIR registered against officials who failed to discharge their duties that paved way for such a dismal situation in the State.
Gupta also dashed off letters to Governor and Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, besides the chairperson of the State human rights commission seeking their immediate interventions to protect the lives of the people in the State.
