Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and blamed it for the deadlock over the passing of two reservation bills.
All the admissions and recruitment processes in the state have come to standstill because of the impasse, he said.
Baghel was addressing a ‘Jan Adhikar Rally’ at the Science College Ground here to seek the Governor's immediate approval to the reservation amendment bills passed by the Assembly.
Baghel alleged that the Governor, holding a constitutional post, was acting on the instructions of BJP leaders and said the Raj Bhawan had become a "political wrestling ground".
“Actually, the saffron party is against the reservations to the deprived classes and hence is creating a hurdle,” he said.
“The Governor had no right to sit on the bills. She should either sign or should return the bills to the state assembly,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the state government had checked all pros and cons and taken legal advice before drafting the bills which ensure reservations to different communities in the state as per their population.
A Quantifiable Data Commission was formed by the government from which the necessary demographic details were sought, he said
AICC Chhattisgarh in-charge Kumari Selja also took part in the rally which was led by PCC chief Mohan Markam. A host of cabinet ministers and MLAs were also in attendance. The Congress claimed that more than one lakh people from across the state took part in the rally.
Later, a delegation led by Markam handed over a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey demanding her approval to the pending reservation bills.
