Now the inmates of Central Jail Jagdalpur will not have to go to Maharani Hospital for their pathological tests as the State administration has decided to set up a pathology lab on the jail premises itself.
The laboratory will soon be established in the jail with the help of Health department as Additional Director Dr R R Netam visited the jail premises the other day.
Notably, The Central Jail at Jagdalpur is housing around 1,500 inmates including a number of dreaded Maoist insurgents. For the pathological test, four or five inmates are taken to Maharani Hospital, which is now part of Jagdalpur Medical college, on daily basis which causes not only inconvenience to ailing inmates but is also a cumbersome job for the jail authorities specially from security point of view. It also leads to delay in test and treatment of inmates.
Considering the large number of inmates and inconvenience in their pathological tests, the National Human Rights Commission had asked the state administration to set up a pathology lab at the Central Jail premises itself.
After that Director, Health services, Raipur had asked the additional director to assess the possibility and initiate action for opening the pathology lab there at the earliest.
According to Jail Superintendent Rajendra Gaekwad, the health department has assured not only to set up the pathology lab but also provide set up for the same which will comprise pharmacist, a nurse and other supporting staff.
After opening of the pathology lab, ailing inmates would get speedy treatment, Gaekwad expressed the hope.
