There are also 7,384 appeals pending including 4,725 in Raipur zone, 1,426 in Bhilai zone and 1,233 in Bilaspur zone, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-I (Raipur) Amrendra Kumar said on Wednesday.

Kumar said that to settle such pending cases of disputes, the Income Tax Department has initiated ‘Vivad se Vishwas’ scheme since March 17, 2020.

Under this scheme, any row can be settled by paying the tax on disputed amount. The last date for availing the scheme has been extended till December 30.

Now, only the requisite tax on the disputed amount needed to be paid.

He told reporters that the Finance Ministry after considering the problems being faced and the spread of corona pandemic, the date of payment of tax has been extended without levying any extra charge till March 31, 2021.

Appeals pending in any forum like CIT (Appeal), ITAT, High Court and Supreme Court on January 31, 2020 can be availed under this scheme.

If the appeal has been won in the favour of the tax payer and department has gone into further appeal, to settle that also only 50 per cent of the required tax is to be paid, he said.

Earlier, the Commissioners (Appeal) used to hear the tax related grievances in Raipur, Bilaspur and Bhilai. After the new arrangement, only the Principal Commissioner will hear the appeal, he said.

Since the launch of the scheme, 1,278 people have appealed under the scheme, he added.
