National Muslim Cow Protection Cell, an Organisation of members from Islamic community, on Monday sought a complete ban on cow slaughter in the country.
“Mostly, when people hear about cow slaughter they connect it with Muslims but it’s not true, the five biggest players in this business are from non-Islamic communities”, said Mohammad Faiz Khan, national convener of the Cell. He was addressing a press conference.
“Though cow slaughter has been banned in the State but the practice still continues illegally in several parts of the state”, Khan said, who is a resident of the city. Stray cattle are injected with tranquillisers and are both slaughtered and transported out of the State. Sometimes, the cattle is deliberately hit by a vehicle and then carried away from city limits, he said.
It may be noted that India has become a leading exporter of beef in the world. There are five large-scale slaughter houses functioning in the country in Himachal Pradesh, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad and Deonar in Mumbai that are owned by people from non-Islamic communities, Khan claimed.
A two-day national meet of ‘cow protectors’ from the Islamic community will be held in the city on March 25 and 26. Representatives from various States and Union territories will participate in the event.
Salim Raj, member of the cell who is also the Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Haj Committee was also present at the press conference.
