After the biggest Maoist attack on the convoy of the Congress at Jeeram Valley on May 25 in which 31 persons including the State top
leadership was killed, neither the State nor the Union Government is ready to take any risk on security front and that’s why the State administration is deploying a large contingent of paramilitary personnel in
south-west Bastar to ensure safety during the election and geared up intelligence set-up in the Maoist infested area ahead of arrival of additional paramilitary allotted by the Centre.
According to police department sources, within a week jawans of Central Security Forces will arrive in the State and thereafter will be sent to other places for deployment. Thana in-charges too have been alerted for maintaining round the clock vigil in order to check the subversive activities of rebels during the poll.
The administration has already finalised lodging arrangements for 450 companies of paramilitary forces expected to start arriving soon. A good number of security forces have already been deployed in Ratenga, Mardum, Kaknar, Bastanar, Kamanar, Jeeram, Netanar, Nangur and other areas.
Due to the tightening of the police grip in the area no major subversive incident has been reported, even as due to the increased activities of Maoists NMDC plant and Railway tracks, both railways and CISF have raised the level of their alertness.
However, due to limiting the concentration of security forces in urban areas in the back-drop of Navratri and Dussehra festivals, the Maoists have also increased their activities around Urban centres and succeeded in killing one Havildar and injuring another at the weekly market of Nakulnar. On the same day, the Maoists had also torched a tipper engaged in construction work on Katekalyan Road besides uprooting railway track on Jagdalpur-Kirandul section of East Coast railways.
Intelligence sources reportedly told the administration that during the Dussehra festival, rebels also participated in festivities in the guise of commoners just to gauge the preparations of the administration for the ensuing Assembly poll against which the rebels have given a boycotting call.
According to unofficial sources, as the administration is engaged in poll preparations, the insurgents are also chalking out strategy to subvert the same and are holding meetings in internal areas to make the boycott successful.
